Many people are concerned over the new flu virus known as H1N1 or more commonly as Swine Flu. Reasonably so! Yet now the chaos has calmed down and the scientists are starting to get a grip on this latest flu outbreak. There was a bit of a mystery when it first struck, causing most of the uneasiness. Not knowing what it was or even if it was treatable. The media loved the concept and carried it way too far. Indicating to many people how much they are at the mercy of the media-where critical thinking and intellect went out the for the birds.

The naming process for this latest flu is up in the air. Seems as though that what we know commonly as Swine flu is changed-or rather relative depending on the source. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) here in the United States have decided to divert away from “Swine” and more of a scientific emphasis H1N1 flu. Largely in part to protect the Pork industry; hundreds of millions of pigs and meat product where destroyed because of the words used. Eating meat of a pig has not been shown as a link to infection of the flu into humans.

Where the World Health Organization (WHO) has decided to go ahead and stick with the term “Swine” flu feeling that it is most easily recognizable and since it is already in common use.
Now it comes down to tradition conventionally the flu is named after the region in which it was first discovered. Historically Spanish flu, Asian flu, Hong Kong flu-so would this latest flu be the North American flu or the Mexican flu…..?
